Yervand Yerkanyan
Composer, violinist
Yervand Yerkanyan is a professor of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, laureate of international competitions, winner of State Youth Award of Armenia.
Between 1987 and 1994, he was the artistic director and the conductor of the Tagharan Ensemble of Ancient Music of Armenia, making arrangements of more than 350 Armenian spiritual and secular songs. In 1994 he left for Beirut, led the Gusan Choir, the Armenia Chamber Orchestra he created, the Madrigal Ancient Music Ensemble and the Ensemble of Violinists.
Yervand Yerkanyan is the author of two operas: "Shushanik" and "Cesar", two ballets: "Orestes" and "King Oedipus", folk opera-ballet "Mokats Mirza", 8 symphonies, a number of oratorios, cantatas, symphonic poems, numerous chamber, chamber-ensemble, chamber-orchestral, vocal and choral cycles, as well as created a number of arrangements of Armenian spiritual and folk songs for individual choirs and choirs of various compositions.
His pieces were published in Hans Sikorsky, Schirmer, Macmillan, Alphonse Le Duke publishing houses.
