TIGRAN MANSURIAN: ROMANCES
"Romances": Vocal-Intsrumental works
Through the initiative and efforts of the Koghb Foundation, and within the framework of the Third Mansurian International Competition, for the first time a complete collection of Tigran Mansurian’s vocal-instrumental works from different periods has been published. The composer has primarily drawn upon texts by Armenian authors.
The works in the collection are presented in chronological order. In the accompaniment, the piano is always present: Mansurian has no vocal-instrumental works without the participation of the piano.
In the scores, alongside the Armenian texts, a Latin-script phonetic transcription is provided to assist non-Armenian-speaking performers. At the end of the book, readers can find English translations of all the texts-some made by the Armenian-American conductor and musicologist, and a great advocate of Mansurian’s music, Vatsche Barsoumian, and the rest specially translated for this publication by Norayr Manvelyan. On the cover, at the maestro’s request, Martiros Saryan’s still life "Flowers" has been used.”
The preface and commentaries of the collection were authored by the musicologist, composer, and pianist Artur Avanesov.
